Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this happening now?

It’s a natural fit. Bay State Gas and Columbia have been associated with each other for 10 years as local distribution companies within NiSource. From a business and customer perspective, it makes sense to refer to our companies under a shared, strong and well-established brand. It is a positive change that recognizes the common commitments, strengths and synergies among all our companies.

When will the new name start appearing?

The new Columbia Gas of Massachusetts name and logo will start appearing sometime in August. The new name is expected to be fully implemented by the end of 2010.

What changes will customers see over the next few months?

Work has already begun to change the company name and logo on customer bills, Interactive Voice Response system, websites and other customer communication materials. All company vehicles, equipment and building signage will be updated with the new name and logo, as will employee uniforms. Changes are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

What are the other Columbia companies?

The companies include: Columbia Gas of Kentucky, Columbia Gas of Maryland, Columbia Gas of Ohio, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, Columbia Gas of Virginia, and now…Columbia Gas of Massachusetts.

What will change for customers and employees?

Only the name and logo are changing – nothing else. Customers will receive the same dependable, safe service, and they can contact the company the same way they always have. No employees, company facilities or phone numbers will change – just the name.

Will this change cost the customers anything?

No. The cost to change the name is not reflected in the company’s gas rates; therefore, customers will not pay for it.
