Columbia Gas of Massachusetts Parent Company Contributes $25,000 to Japan Relief Efforts

Westborough, MA., March 22, 2011 - The parent company of Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, Indiana-based NiSource Inc., today announced a $25,000 donation from the NiSource Charitable Foundation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in support of its relief efforts in Japan.

“We recognize throughout the corporation that natural disasters such as the one in Japan affect us all,” Columbia Gas of Massachusetts President Steve Bryant noted. “Collectively, we are interested in helping to ensure Japan and its people recover from the devastation. Our thoughts go out to the friends and families who lost loved ones as a result of this tragedy.”

The contribution continues the company’s long-standing partnership with the Red Cross and will help bolster the organization’s effort to support victims of the Japanese disaster, as well those affected by disasters in the U.S. and elsewhere in the world where need is greatest. The company is also encouraging individual donations from its employees.

In 2010, NiSource companies provided a record level of more than $6.8 million in charitable donations to local, regional and national organizations. This included a similar donation to the American Red Cross in support of its relief efforts in Haiti following its devastating earthquake.
