Infrastructure Modernization

Investing in Safety and Reliability

Columbia Gas of Massachusetts is committed to the safe delivery of natural gas. Our plan to update and replace the natural gas distribution system and facilities that deliver natural gas to nearly 300,000 customers in 65 cities and towns calls for the replacement of 1,100 miles of pipe over the next 20+ years.

Columbia Gas of Massachusetts has nearly 5,000 miles of pipe in the ground throughout its service area. The modernization project allows us the opportunity to replace our bare steel and cast iron pipes with state-of the-art polyethylene pipes.

Investing in the Communities We Serve

Investing in our infrastructure is also an investment in the communities we serve. By proactively installing new state-of-the-art facilities, we enhance the safety and integrity of our natural gas delivery system. In addition to the operational benefits, this multi-year project benefits Massachusetts economy by creating employment opportunities through additional construction-related jobs. A modern and efficient natural gas distribution system also leads to economic development for many of the communities we serve.
